Bad Day

I count my blessings for not really having too many bad days in my life. I am blessed to have so many good days. Today was not one of those!

Part of the reason we made a quick trip to Lubbock for the weekend was to see Grandma because today she moved into an Alzheimer's care facility. Last week it became clear to Grandpa and my family that Grandpa could no longer take care of her. Grandma would become so agitated about a situation and there was nothing you could do to calm her down.

Unfortunately, she is not a very nice Alzheimer's patient. She can be mean and mad. I can only imagine what my Grandpa has been through the last few years. She is mostly mean to Grandpa and my Mom. They have both been so patient with her and will do about anything to make her happy. Grandpa and Mom are saints!

We have moved Grandma to a very nice facility that only cares for Alzheimer's patients. I know she will be taken care of there, but it is still so hard. I can't imagine going back to Lubbock and not seeing her in her home. This will become her new home with time.

I know Grandma will hate this place probably for awhile, but this is the best for her. We cannot jeopardize Grandpa's health for Grandma's. I would not be surprised if she is mad at Grandpa and Mom for a couple of weeks. She likes to hold grudges these days. I just pray that she is nice to both of them. They really had no other choice.

I can't imagine how difficult this must be on Grandpa. My grandparents celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last month. After 63 years together they will be spending their nights apart. It breaks my heart.

Please pray for my family during this difficult time. Pray that Grandma adjust well and quickly to her new environment. Pray that she does not hold a grudge against Grandpa and Mom for making this decision.

Oh no. I saw your facebook post. It was almost exactly two years ago that we made this same decision for the same reason. My heart is absolutely breaking for you. It's so hard. I'd like to tell you it gets easier, I'm not sure if it does.

My grandpa visited every single day until he passed away. I know that he knew it was the right decision but it weighed heavy on his heart. If you need anything call me, I've been through this one and can cry with you!! Love you all!!

I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this. We'll be praying for you and your family. As a sidenote: what a blessing that you care for her and your mom and grandpa the way you do. Your compassion and the way you guys go out of the way for each other is surely a great gift.
